Michael S. Nowak
Michael S. Nowak was born in Buffalo, New York in 1966. In 1984 he earned the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. In 1984 he attended the University of Pittsburgh to study physics and astronomy and in 1988 left the program to study architecture at the State University of New York at Buffalo. Upon completion of his Bachelor’s degree in Architecture in 1993 he took an intern-architect position at the office of Duchscherer-Oberst Design, an architecture and engineering practice in Buffalo, NY.

He began graduate studies at the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1993. These studies were concurrently pursued while working in several architectural practices, including Foit-Albert Associates, located in Buffalo, NY.

In 1997 he left Foit-Albert and studied landscape architecture at the Architecture School in Aarhus, Denmark. Upon returning to the United States in 1998 he entered the offices of BHNT Architects in Buffalo, NY and worked as a project architect, project manager, and project designer.

In the year 2000 he left Buffalo to take a project manager’s position with Renaissance 3 Architects (R3A) in Pittsburgh, PA. Among the many projects he managed were several laboratories for Carnegie Mellon University. Most of these biochemistry or organic chemistry labs required uniquely challenging design approaches due to the limited spaces available or the technical requirements of the research.

In 2005 Michael S. Nowak left R3A and completed his Master of Architecture degree at the State University of New York at Buffalo. In 2005 he earned his New York license and became a member of the American Institute of Architects.

In 2006 he obtained the National Council of Architectural Licensure Boards Certificate. This recognized his experience and high standard of performance in completing the nine individual board exams that comprise the Architecture Registration Exam. He also obtained his license to practice architecture in Pennsylvania, after which he formed Michael S. Nowak Architecture LLC and his practice is located in Indiana, Pennsylvania.

In the fall semester of 2006 Michael S. Nowak accepted a full-time faculty position at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. As an educator-practitioner he taught Graphic Presentation, 3-Dimensional Design, Hand-Drafting and CAD-Drafting, offering his expertise in the subjects from both a technical and practical point of view.

Michael S. Nowak is currently providing design services for private clients and consulting services for other architecture firms. Some of his consulting work includes providing design services for ASA Architects in Las Cruces, New Mexico. In addition to design work for ASA, he develops construction documents, such as construction drawings and specifications as well as providing master planning solutions for many of their projects.
