Dr. Lamantia Family Medicine

Dr. Lamantia's office is underway and should be complete in early 2008.  The project consists of interior and site renovations to an existing wood-framed, single story, single-family house into a medical office.  The client required 3 exam rooms, separate offices for medical secretary, a nurse, himself as well as space for sterilization, medical equipment storage, a kitchenette, and a waiting space.

The existing interior was utilized as best as possible to accommodate what was there.  The challenge in this project is to mitigate many varying floor levels built over the years, the result of several additions to the original house.  In addition to the basic creation of the interior spaces required for the medical practice’s function, the interior finishes will be designed and coordinated to create an atmosphere that will provide an inviting and professional atmosphere.

One handicapped accessible exit was required.  This meant that a level path of travel for exiting was designed into the medical office for patients who are wheelchair bound.  A new parking lot was designed and an accessible sidewalk from the handicapped parking space to the main entrance was provided.

Under Construction – November 2007

Future ADA Accessible Toilet Room - Compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and the International Building Code standards for accessible spaces is a required aspect of every project.  This project required one accessible toilet room for the patient's use.  Here, we re-used an existing bathroom for the new toilet room, which allowed us to use the existing hot and cold-water piping, as well as the sanitary waste lines and vents.
Future Sound-Attenuated Exam Room - For the successful design of a patient exam room, privacy must be taken into consideration.  Here, a double wood-stud wall is used between exam rooms with a 1-inch air space between.  Each wall will be filled with sound attenuating insulation for increased audio privacy.  Solid-core wood doors with gasketed weather-stripping will help ensure that sound transmission between the exam rooms and the corridor will be kept to a minimum.

Main Corridor - The is the future main corridor connecting the waiting room, the medical secretary's office and the nurse's office.

Front Elevation - This is the current state of affairs at the front facade.  A new main entrance will replace what was once the front door to the house.  We are introducing 5 new windows in addition to a new entry door with a vestibule to help keep the interior temperatures from fluctuating.  We will also re-side the building to replace the many years of ad hoc additions with different siding types and sizes.
