Carnegie Mellon University; Dr. Todd M. Przybycien Biomedical Research Laboratory at the Pittsburgh Technology Campus Project Manager, Project Architect, Project Designer. Work performed for others. The project involved the renovation of existing laboratory space at the Carnegie Mellon University's Pittsburgh Technology Campus building located on Second Ave. in Pittsburgh along the Monongahela River. It consisted of a new 3,000sf, 5-hood, bio-medical research laboratory, a cell-culture laboratory, an AFM Room, a RAMAN room, and a separate Optics Lab. The lab renovation occurred on multiple floors and the largest programmed space was designed to maximize research flexibility. This was achieved by designing overhead plug-in utility stations that contained multiple gas ports and power outlets. This was combined with movable research work surfaces to allow floor plan configurations to change as research needs changed. Finishes in the lab were kept at a reasonable budget figure in order to offset the mechanical costs, however creative color schemes were utilized to provide an inspiring work environment. Construction was completed in 2003 and was valued at $400,000 (2003).
Carnegie Mellon University; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Dr. Catalina Achim Organic Chemistry Research Laboratory at Mellon Institute Project Manager, Project Architect, Project Designer. Work performed for others. The project involved the renovation of existing laboratory space in Mellon Institute, a historic research building located on 5Th Ave., in Pittsburgh's Oakland neighborhood. The project consisted of a new 2,000sf, 5-hood, organic chemistry research laboratory and the project utilized existing corridor space in order to capture larger usable areas. The design achieved this through the creation of research suites. This allowed the utilization of corridor for research use and still met exiting requirements for code purposes. This innovative use of the space gained approximately 30% more space for the researcher to use for student research workstations, flexible meeting/teaching space, and to help identify the suite architecturally. Construction was complete in 2002 and was valued at $630,000 (2002).
Carnegie Mellon University; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Dr. Danith Ly Chemistry Research Laboratory at Mellon Institute Project Manager, Project Architect, Project Designer. Work performed for others. The project involved the renovation of existing laboratory space in Mellon Institute, a historic research building located on 5Th Ave., in Pittsburgh's Oakland neighborhood. The project consisted of a new 2,500sf, 7-hood, chemistry research laboratory in an existing lab facility and the project utilized existing corridor space in order to capture larger usable areas. Construction was complete in 2002 and was valued at $595,000 (2002).
Carnegie Mellon University; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Dr. Tomasz Kowalewski Chemistry Research Laboratory at Mellon Institute Project Manager, Project Architect. Work performed for others. The project involved the renovation of existing laboratory space in Mellon Institute, a historic research building located on 5Th Ave., in Pittsburgh's Oakland neighborhood. The project consisted of a new 2,000sf, 3-hood, bio-medical research laboratory in an existing lab facility. The program required a combination of wet-lab space, an AFM Room, an office, and a general work and teaching area for students. The project was completed in 2001. Construction value and was valued at $600,000 (2001).
Veterans Affairs Pittsburgh Health Care System; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; 1-1W LabProject Architect. Work performed for others.
